Apocalypse of Purgatory

The pyramids suspended above each pole of the planet–nay, not a planet, but a power station–revolve slowly as they drain the love and strife from that place. But now they are split by lines of light and fire.

The emotion engines explode and into that squall of unfettered emotion, the pyramids were cast and sundered.

On the planet below–nay, not a planet, but a power station–the inhabitants watch as the atmosphere is filled with a million glinting pieces of inconceivable matter and they know this is the end.

But here in purgatory, an ending was the thing they wanted the most.

Explanation:

By exploiting the fundamental cosmic law (called kw’tga) the inhabitants (unknown) of the pyramids are able to “hijack” souls to to Purgatory at the moment of death.

This was possible by seeding religious beliefs into different societies, in order to create a replicating wave of psychical resonance. Both faith and fear are channelled up into those weird pyramids to power their so-called “emotion engines”.

On the planet below, the baroque extremes of religious mythology are made manifest–from the high, unassailable cliffs of Heaven to the smouldering pits of Molten Hell.
