Apocalypse of the Cerebellum

In the sterile blue and white offices of the future-humans who called themselves the Cerebellum, agents were poring over hundreds of documents that pertained to the multi-world-apocalypse.

One such agent, Garth, chewed absentmindedly on his pen, leaving bite marks on the plastic. He stared at the piece of paper in front of him and frowned at the incomprehensible jumble of symbols.

“But what does it mean?”

“We know why it’s happening,” said Hano and pressed a switch. The room plunged into darkness and a grotesque skeletal face appeared on the wall. The skeleton’s eyes were on fire, burning with an impossible consciousness.

Several of the agents looked away.

“It’s disgusting,” said one.

“The Dictator. ” Hano said, walking so that he was standing between the projector and the wall. Light curved around him. He clicked the remote and the image on the wall behind him changed to an untidy diagram of the cosmological order. “His experiments are folding each world into his own at an alarming rate. We are calling the resulting creation End World,”

Another image appeared on the screen. This one showed a simple animation of a bunch of orbs all rolling into the same hole. Garth was beginning to feel offended.

“In turn this is causing the Neverous Ether to contract,” Hano continued. As though on cue, (because it was on cue, because I’m making it happen at this exact moment) the conference room shook. Garth placed his hand on a sheet of papers to stop them scattering.

Nobody responded to the shaking. It was a fact of life for those who lived along the coil. The hyper-plasticity of those filaments sometimes caused them to twist and bend, which was preferable, of course, to having them break.

“And us?” a concerned voice.

Hano shrugged and Garth sighed.

Again, the office rocked and wobbled; again, it teetered on the precipice.

Explanation:

It is the intention of the Cerebellum to maintain order in the Neverous Ether–something they’re not especially good at.

They frequently attempt to intervene in inter-dimensional affairs though a complex bureaucracy that is largely ignored by the higher alien councils that outrank them.

When kw’tga (fundamental cosmic law) carried the Interloper towards Purgatory, the Cerebellum could have intervened and did not. It is unlikely that this would have altered events in any significant way, as the Ether had already been significantly compromised due to the Interloper’s own actions.

During incoherence the Coil is sometimes visible in the sky where it appears as a series of faded loops.

Trivia:

The Dictator is based on Skeletor and for a long time had no physical form at all. This led to the resistance creating subversive street posters that read: “THE DICTATOR HAS NO BODY”.
