Apocalypse of the Nine Doors of the Vatari

In a rock wall beyond thick, treacherous jungle and amid the ancient mountains of the Helicomageston, there is a hidden metal door that leads to a surprisingly pleasant corridor. At the end of this corridor is a brown door, unadorned except for four rectuangular panels and a brass doorknob.

Beyond the door is a nonagonal room with a floor of white polished marble. There is a nine-spoked star inlaid in the floor. A bright circular light shines from the the ceiling, and the floors reflect the doors on each wall, each one a different colour.

These are the Nine Doors of the Vatari and the most sacred of the Vatari sanctums. The most fundamental rule of this place is that no two doors should be opened at once.

That rule is about to be broken.

Now there is nobody here but us, but we are not real. The doors, however, are real and they are beginning to warp and shudder. The brass doorknobs spill off in unison and bounce towards the centre of the star. And then–all at once–the Nine Doors of the Vatari burst open.

From each doorway blaze beams of light. Converging at the centre of the room they are deflected into other doorways (and so on, and so on) until the criss-crossing beams of light fill the entire room. And then the world explodes, breaking the mountain and raining huge chunks of dirt and stone for miles.

Even as this new line of light reaches for the sky, another is appearing on the horizon. And another. And another. For the lines of light are everywhere, approaching from every angle, appearing in every world.

Description:

The Vatari have existed alongside humans for ages without detection. They are responsible for many of aEarth-3’s mythologies and religious beliefs.

Vatari possess a third eye that takes the form of a coloured crystal. They learn to mask this with a subtle form of deflective mind-control and are otherwise indistinguishable from humans.

They are not a space-faring race and the Nine Doors are the only way for them to travel between worlds. The origins of the Vatari are not certain, though it is suspected they are related to Changdala.
